Imagine Tomorrow! Arts, parks and recreation for all
This consultation has concluded. Thank you to over 6,000 participants of the Imagine Tomorrow! planning effort. Imagine Tomorrow! Arts, Parks and Recreation for All, was adopted by Lakewood City Council on May 22, 2023 with a focus on equity.
The City of Lakewood Department of Community Resources embarked on a year-long planning process to create a bold vision for the future of Lakewood’s arts, parks and recreation system. The Department worked with the planning firm, Logan Simpson, to engage the community, evaluate current and future trends in parks and cultural asset planning and determine future priorities. Ultimately, Imagine Tomorrow! Arts, parks and recreation for all, presents a compelling vision for arts and play in Lakewood that is supported by policy guidance in a user-friendly, implementable planning document.
The master planning process charts a course for the next decade of Lakewood’s investment and programming for parks, recreation and the arts. The plan addresses current challenges, determines strategies for meeting future demands and establishes priorities for achieving the community’s shared vision. Larger dance studio and more afternoon dance classes for adults.
We are squished like sardines in the current dance space and there is only one offering for an afternoon dance class.

Better access and connections to parks
Some of the sidewalks surrounding parks are in need of repair, at least in the West Colfax area. The sidewalks are not well maintained and are directly on the street with speeding cars, which makes walking to parks dangerous for children and pets.

Add directional bike trails to Green Mountain Park
Green mountain is a large park with limited sanctioned trail development. The soil and grade is well suited for a directional bike only jump trail, similar to the popular NPR trail of Steamboat Springs, B-Line of Breckenridge or Razzmatazz of Winter Park. Having local higher level riding options will reduce the weekly outflow of riders to mountain towns, capturing that revenue for local business.

park signs and closures
I like when the park closes trails because of wet conditions, and posts the current conditions and recommendations, but it seems like sometimes the sign doesn't get changed when dry conditions exist, which probably makes people not trust the signs and use the trails when they shouldn't. But nice job Lakewood to add gates and signs!

More Storage
Pottery is a huge draw at the Washington Heights Art Center but I feel like I'm always fighting for room to store my work while it's drying, waiting to be fired, etc. It definitely feels like there's not enough space for the number of people that use the services even with instructors cleaning out old pieces consistently.
