A Happy Gardener at Ute Trail Community Garden

I was lucky enough to be one of the gardeners chosen when the Ute Trail garden was started about 6 years ago. A friend invited me to join in her plot. While I had some experience with perennials, the only vegetable gardening experience I had was helping my Mom as  a kid-a very long time ago.  But I "dug" right in so to speak and have learned so much and now am able to grow quite a few things. I have shared my plot with different friends and last year managed the plot by myself- I felt confident that I could go it alone. I am most proud of my asparagus and squash.  I am still learning- every year provides its own challenges and rewards. We truly are a community; we help each other; learn from each other; work together to support to common needs of the garden. We also generously donate a portion of our produce to the local food banks and hungry friends- it gives us a great sense of accomplishment and giving. Each year, we have turnover so we welcome new folks who bring new energy, experience, questions and friendship. Every year in October I am ready to "put the garden to bed" and take a break; but now in January I am already starting to get excited for the next season.

 Happy gardening!
