Two Creeks Park plan area

The Two Creeks Park site is 3.8-acres and meanders between West 12th and West 10th avenues just east of Wadsworth Boulevard. The main unifying element of the site is Dry Gulch, bisecting the site from northwest to southeast. The recent purchase of property currently housing a car wash brings new opportunities to provide accessible park facilities along Wadsworth and expand neighborhood park amenities.

The City of Lakewood hired Flow Design Collaborative to revisit the 2013 Two Creeks Park master plan in order to address these new opportunities and incorporate current community feedback in preparation for construction of the park, currently targeted for spring of 2023.

The overall goal of this planning effort is to provide much needed neighborhood park space and amenities, an off-street trail connection from West 10th to West 12th, and accessibility to the creek for park users.

The project was planned to begin in the fall of 2023, why has it changed to early next year? We've been waiting for this park since 2008. Another question, how are you going to prevent the homeless from camping in the park when its finally built?

Close Neighbor asked 6 months ago

    Hi there,

These are important questions. We agree, we want to start construction as quickly as possible! The delay for construction is the result of multiple unforeseen factors including waiting for an updated survey for the new parcel acquired by the city and permitting through XCEL and CDOT. In addition the city is working with CDOT to incorporate their detention needs as a part of the site plan approval process. Design delays shifted the approval process which we continue to work through today, but are getting close to final design at 90% drawings.

We know that there will be challenges with support for our unhoused population and the city is doing everything we can to minimize any issues at Two Creeks Park.

Enforcement will be the best way to prevent camping in the park. Several design considerations were also incorporated to aid in enforcement and discourage camping such as:

    • Open views into the core area of the park
    • Minimize evergreen trees
    • Add pedestrian lights along central path
    • No drinking fountains
    • No restrooms

In addition, the city is hiring more homeless navigators to provide support services to unhoused and continues work with local partners and nonprofits to increase opportunities to shelter.

I am handicapped but love to take my granddaughter to the park to play. The playground and picnic areas are very far for someone with a walker

    mayansuz asked 12 months ago

This is important feedback, thank you! The playground location was determined through the public engagement process with the neighborhood and grades of the paths were carefully considered to ensure access to the park for all users. As a neighborhood park, space for parking was not provided. I understand your concern, and will share your feedback with the design team.

Wouldn't there be a better location choice other than right off of a major thoroughfare like Wadsworth blvd. and that may also be larger and shapelier? example, Okane park.

Two Creeks Park is a neighborhood park intended to serve residents residing nearby or within walking distance. Staff has worked with the Two Creeks neighborhood throughout this planning effort and we are excited to bring a new space to recreate to the area!

Really excited about this, and can't wait to see it come together! Sorry if I missed this--is there any thought put into how to make this a safe/desirable area for families to come play at?

    cj_fusch asked 12 months ago

Hi there, great question! We will be including pedestrian-level park lighting in the park, focused on the main trail corridor. We have also designed the park for strong sight lines to allow for monitoring. Activation of a park tends to improve the safety, we hope that will be the case at Two Creeks as well.

The layout is exception, but misses one characteristic. I did not see a section reserved for adult fitness. For instance, cross bars, a platform for situps and an area for pushups. Also would like to see a bike rack so it safe to leave a bike while walking or running the paved areas of the park. Thanks!
