Taft Park

The new Taft Park playground is now open! We hope you enjoy the new playground and accessibility improvements. Learn more about the project below.

Taft Park, 2951 Simms Dr., was funded for improvements with construction beginning in the fall of 2021.

Last renovated in 1985, this beloved neighborhood park has provided much enjoyment to local families and visitors over the years. With input from the community, the City upgraded playground amenities and provided improved accessibility. The goal was to develop a plan to ensure that Taft Park remains a special gathering place in Ward 1.

The Taft Park playground neighborhood meeting originally scheduled for September 29 has been rescheduled beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13 at the park. We hope to see you there.

Construction is set to being on Monday, July 18!

Would it be possible to have a zoom meeting with the person designing the layout of the playground so that i may provide some comments? Id love to be involved any way that I can before layouts are finalized. on Facebook Share I am a licensed landscape architect in Colorado and have designed many playgrounds throughout North America. This park playground is the next scheduled for replacement in our parks system due to safety, accessibility and failing infrastructure. Improvements that are funded with this project include updating the playground and accessibility improvements. Thanks!

Is the project open to donations and volunteers of the neighborhood?

Thank you for your question! We do not have a mechanism to receive individual donations for this space; however, we do have funding in place for the renovation of the playground and ADA (Americans with Disabilities) Act improvements for accessibility. If you are interested in setting up a volunteer group or cleanup event, you may submit a group volunteer application at Lakewood.org/Volunteer. Feel free to email me to discuss donations at ambthi@lakewood.org

Thank you for your question. Taft Park has always been in the Urban Parks system rather than our Regional Open Space system. This means it is urban in nature and maintained by the parks staff rather than the open space staff. From a playground renovation perspective, there is no change. We have funding for replacement of the outdated playground.
