Porter Park today
The City of Lakewood is developing a site plan for the new Porter Park!
Located at 731 Tabor St., Porter Park is a 7.7-acre property purchased in 2021 by the city to provide much needed park space in Ward 1.
To honor the legacy of the Porter family, the park is named after Daniel Wilson Porter and Phyllis Porter. Daniel and Phyllis owned this property and had a love for farming and preservation; Daniel became a master gardener late in life. The Porter family desired the city carry on the farming tradition on the property, with a farming element in the future park that would serve the Lakewood community. The city agreed to incorporate an agriculture theme, and as always, is committed to sustainability. Nearby residents can anticipate lots of open space, native plantings and modest amenities in their new neighborhood park.
Demolition of the existing structures on the site occurred in early 2023. The development of the site is initially funded in the city's five-year Capital Improvement Plan Budget in 2024-2025.
Residents have provided feedback and helped create a vision for the new park through a two- year community engagement process to develop a final site plan. The site plan is currently in permitting review and includes a loop trail, open lawn area, nature playground, community garden and a pollinator garden. In addition, the project was awarded a Community Development Block Grant to support the development of the site!

Hi there,
Thank you for your question regarding Porter Park. The project team is also anxious to get this park under construction. Fortunately, this project has been awarded funding from the Community Development Block Grant program. With this funding comes some additional review requirements that have caused some delay. In addition, the park design is currently in engineering and permitting review. This project is funded in the current budget cycle and is anticipated for construction in spring of 2026. Thank you for your patience!
Share Hi! Is there any update on this park? Is it forever off of the table, or might construction happen down the road? We were looking forward to seeing the plans come to life and being able to play there, plus the increase in property values, but maybe it is scrapped forever?
