February 2024 update: Intersection improvements are underway at South Wadsworth Boulevard, and Morrison Road. Learn my by visiting Lakewood.org/ConeZone.

Peak View Park opened July 7! Learn more about the park below and download the park map.

Project Background

In 2018, the City of Lakewood acquired approximately 60 acres of the "Taylor Estate" to be forever preserved as open space. This stunning property can be viewed from South Wadsworth Boulevard between Morrison Road and West Vassar Avenue. The acquisition of the property, 2350 South Wadsworth Boulevard, was completed with the help and generosity of Jefferson County Open Space.

Take a virtual tour of Peak View Park!

Project Details
Intended to be a passive-use open space, the future Peak View Park will be a wonderful space to recreate and take in beautiful views. Park planning efforts were temporarily delayed to accommodate access to the site from Wadsworth. The consultant team for the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is working on traffic studies, environmental clearances and engineering for the addition of an access point off Wadsworth and Morrison Road at the northwest corner of the park. While the access and phase one (to include a hard surface trail and parking lot) is targeted for completion in 2023, the city launched a public engagement process to determine the future look and feel for the park in 2021.

Help Name the Park

Most importantly, we need your help selecting a name for this exceptional addition to Lakewood Parks! Use the survey tab below to submit the perfect name for the park by April 30. We will narrow submissions to three choices and create a poll for this page to determine the winning name by May 30. The person who submits the winning name will receive a 2021 annual pass to Bear Creek Lake Park. Peak View Park was selected by residents as the new name for this park for its views of Pikes Peak.

Learn more about the site from a birds-eye view of the Peak View Park in the video below.

All future improvements will create a welcoming experience for all visitors. Use the tools below to provide feedback on the project and share ideas. Subscribe to this page for project notifications when new information becomes available.

There is an ADA accessible loop that would be great for all abilities. At this time there is not a shade shelter, and the park is passive use open space. This means that outside the trails, it is native grasses and not irrigated grass areas.

    Hi there,

There have not been any specific snake sightings in Peak View Park, that said, open space areas are snake habitat across the City of Lakewood and residents should be on the lookout for snakes while using trails.

  • Share We love the park. Today was our second time walking and running the trails. This morning at 6:00 there was a van in the parking lot that appeared to have been there all night with blankets over the open windows. It had a strange looking California paper license plate. And there was a person in a sleeping bag under a bench at the West Over Look. Thank you for this information, we are aware of the camping that occurred over the weekend. The city's Community Action Team has been notified and will be making regular visits to the park. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us with any concerns.

Charley Davidson asked 10 months ago

    Hi there,

Peak View Park is intended to be an open space park with passive uses. There are no plans for a skatepark in this location at this time, although the city will collect resident feedback on any new amenities for the park after the intersection at Morrison Road and Wadsworth Blvd. is complete. Hi there,

We are working carefully with grades on the concrete trail loop to provide access. There are currently no plans for a dog off leash area at Peak View Park. We are working on a community dog park at Wadsworth and the Bear Creek Greenbelt. This park will be accessible from the parking lot and new trailhead.  Learn more at LakewoodTogether.org/BearCreekDogPark!

  • Share Hi there, my name is Rahman Minhas and I have lived in the area for most of my life. I remember walking through this area as a kid during the summer always wondering why I couldn’t go in. Needless to say I am happy about plans to open it to the public. As a chapter leader of the Colorado Native Plant Society, I have a concerted interest in the development of the park and restoration/preservation of native plant communities on the site. Has the trail and parking lot development areas been evaluated for potential habitat of desirable species? Has a plant inventory been performed? Is there plans to restore native vegetation within the park to preserve the natural legacy of the foothills/prairie ecosystems? CoNPS has various committees including the restoration committee, and field studies committee that have performed certain services with public land developments and have several resources for information on native species and ecosystems. Thank you. on Facebook Share Hi there, my name is Rahman Minhas and I have lived in the area for most of my life.
