Vote for your favorite playground design at Meadowlark Park

Big improvements are on the way for Meadowlark Park! A brand-new playground is planned for 2026, bringing more opportunities for play, exploration, and connection to the neighborhood. We want to hear from you on which playground design you prefer! Use our survey tool to share your feedback by selecting your favorite option. You can also ask a question about the park improvements and city staff will respond.

In March 2026, Lakewood invited playground vendors to submit design proposals for the renovation. The response was strong - seven vendors submitted fourteen unique concepts. Each design offered a different mix of features, layouts, and play experiences, all thoughtfully planned to fit within the existing play area.

Design teams were asked to make the most of the available space while prioritizing play opportunities for children ages 5-12, an important part of the neighborhood's makeup. Just as importantly, every proposal included upgrades to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. This means replacing the current pea gravel with accessible surfacing to ensure children of all abilities can safely enjoy the playground.

After careful evaluation, staff selected two standout playground designs to share with the community. These options were chosen based on:

  • Staying within the project budget, including removal of old equipment and installation of new features.
  • Meeting safety standards set by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
  • Offering a variety and volume of play elements that encourage active, challenging and imaginative fun for children of different ages.

Check out the two proposed designs below and let us know which one you prefer by taking our survey. Thank you for taking part in this important community project!
