Sidewalks, shared-use paths and trails support a high quality of life, provide safety and create transportation options for Lakewood residents. Building missing sections of these amenities has always been a priority for Lakewood, and we want your help in identifying where there are missing connections.

Building missing connections

For years, the Public Works and Community Resources departments have received residents' requests for building missing connections for sidewalks, shared-use paths and trails. In addition, the Community Resources Department has long-term plans for completing trail sections or improvements, such as the Bear Creek Trail project, that have been developed with community input. Often development occurs in the city that results in the developer completing a segment of missing sidewalk, trail or other high priority connection. The interactive map below shows the missing connections that are currently documented, and City Council has adopted criteria for prioritizing the funding to build missing sections.

To gather additional information on missing connections and potentially suggest additional criteria for prioritizing funding, City Council asked the Lakewood Advisory Commission's Neighborhood Committee to work on this project, with a focus on health and equity. LAC consists of 30 residents who research specific issues of interest to residents and provide recommendations for potential action to City Council. This Connect Lakewood project is gathering information from residents to assist the Neighborhood Committee.
