The draft Vision, Goals, and Strategies for Lakewood's new Comprehensive Plan are available for review!

After nearly a year of community conversations about the vision and values for the future of Lakewood, the Envision Lakewood 2040 project team is excited to share the Draft Vision Elements for the updated Comprehensive Plan!

The Vision Elements include the Vision Statement, Guiding Principles, Goals and Strategies that will be incorporated into the full Comprehensive Plan document. Together, these policy elements articulate Lakewood’s vision, values and priorities that will guide city decision-making over the next 15 years.

Drafting these Vision Elements has been the focus of the City-Council appointed volunteer Advisory Groups (AG) during a series of ten meetings from May through November 2024 with an estimated 600+ hours spent by AG members reviewing, discussing, and refining these drafts with staff and consultant support and community input received through a community-wide survey and at two open houses. More details about the AG and their process is available at Lakewood.org/AG.

We’re asking community members for feedback on these draft Vision Elements prior to finalizing them for the full Comprehensive Plan adoption process with Planning Commission and City Council in early 2025. Please take a few minutes to complete this short 7 question survey by January 10, 2025 to help shape the city’s future through its Comprehensive Plan. Please encourage your friends, family, and neighbors who live, work or visit Lakewood to take the survey too!

    Open Houses

Two open houses in October shared the vision, values and policy direction that the team has been working on over the summer with the Advisory Groups and gathered feedback that will help refine the drafts.

    - The first event was an open house on October 10 in the atrium at Civic Center South. The event included eight activities that ranged from reviewing the draft vision statement, goals and guiding principles and a building block activity to a mapping activity and a Spin to Win game!

    - The following day, on October 11, a Latino Community Picnic was held at O’Kane Park. This event included the same eight activities as the October 10 open house. All materials were translated in Spanish and facilitated with staff from Community Language Cooperative and MIG, one of the project consultants.

    Cider Days Pop-Up Event

On October 5 and 6, the team had a booth at Lakewood’s Cider Days festival where community members could stop by to learn about the Comprehensive Plan Update process. Participants spun a prize wheel to reveal which question they needed to answer to win candy. The questions were designed to be easy for event participants to answer on the spot while also providing feedback that helped refine the Comp Plan drafts underway. Over 730 direct comments were received across the two days! Cider Days was also great opportunity to widely promote the two open houses – the Community Open House and the Latino Community Picnic – that were held the following week.

    Back to School Bash

Our team had a table at the Jeffco Back to School Bash in August where we heard about the community's hopes and dreams for Lakewood's future from students and their families. Community members were invited to write their wish onto a leaf and add them to our community tree. By the end of the event we had over 230 leaves on our tree!
