Participate in the selection process
The city's selection process for the next city manager has entered the exciting public phase, which provides ways for you to participate through Aug. 6. We want to hear from you, and your feedback will be provided to City Council as it makes its final decision. We want to know who you think will be the best fit for Lakewood, and here is how to participate:
July 21: Review the finalists' biographies. If you want to receive updates about this process, use the Stay Informed button to sign up for those.
July 28: Video interviews will be posted on this project page for you to review, along with a survey to provide your feedback.
Aug. 6: Public reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park Visitor Center, along with a digital or printed form for your comments. The finalists will be stationed throughout the Visitor Center so you can rotate through to speak with each of them. Light refreshments will be provided. No RSVP needed.
Deadline for public comment: All comments must be submitted by 10 p.m. on Aug. 6.

About the selection process
Under the City Charter, which functions as the city's constitution, the City Council hires the city manger by a majority vote of all council members. The City Charter also determines that Lakewood has a council-manager form of government, which means the city manager is Lakewood's chief executive officer who oversees all aspects of daily operations and puts City Council’s policies into action by directing all city departments.
The City Council has been working on the selection process for the city manager's position since April, beginning with issuing a request for proposals from executive recruiting firms to conduct a national search. In May, the national recruiting process began with the announcement of the position. Following submission of applications, City Council has been working to narrow the applicants to five finalists to announce to the public and from which to make a final selection.
