City Council Adopts Benchmarking Ordinance

On February 23, 2026, City Council unanimously adopted (see Public Hearing video here) an Energy Benchmarking Ordinance that requires property owners of commercial, multi-family, and public buildings 10,000+ SF in gross floor area to report their energy use annually. Applicable property owners will need to report their 2025 energy use by December 31, 2026. Staff will spend the next several months setting up reporting infrastructure, putting together a covered buildings list, creating resources and communications for property owners, and hosting several training sessions to help property owners comply with the program.
