front yard gardener

Hi!

We built an awesome vegetable garden in the front yard last summer in an area previously occupied by an unhealthy cherry tree. We have 2 large raised beds, and grew a ton of green beans and tomatoes and carrots and lettuce/spinach/arugula. Being in the garden drew the neighbors over, and we would place extra harvest goodies on the sidewalk to share. It is a great way to be outside and active, it also looks really cool. We definitely need more gardening!!

School/Community Garden Success

We opened our new School/Community Garden at Green Gables Elementary School this past spring after a few years of planning and fundraising and construction. The garden has turned out to be a tremendous success—more successful than we ever imagined it would be!!! The garden has provided countless benefits to our school, individual gardeners, and our neighborhood as a whole. The garden has been a huge hit for the students and teachers at the school—everyone loves to be out in the garden and outdoor classroom. Teachers are finding new ways throughout the school year to connect the garden to the curriculum…

Gardening provides my Family with Better Food all year round

As a young girl in Illinois my mother always grew wonderful tomatoes & peaches and one year my father rented the old High School's Football field and we planted it. Over an acre of Corn and Watermelon and rows of other veggies grew in the hot, black, Illinois soil that year ....and we preserved much of it and it lasted our large family several years of jarred food and frozen food.
