Current conditions

The existing sidewalk is limited to the north side of West 8th Avenue, beginning at Independence Street and ending approximately 100 feet east of Hoyt Street. The existing sidewalk is approximately 2.5 feet wide and does not meet current accessibility standards. No sidewalk is present along the remaining portions of either side of the corridor.

Other existing conditions include:

• Roadway paved widths ranging from approximately 25 to 30 feet.
• An open irrigation ditch along the north side of West 8th between Garland and Garrison streets.
• Overhead utility lines along the northern portion of the corridor.
• Existing landscaping consisting primarily of grass and rock mulch, with some trees and shrubs.
• Several fences located near or within the city right of way.
• Existing underground gas, water, and sanitary sewer utilities that will remain in place and will be protected during construction.
