Thank you for your input on the potential benefits and challenges of getting around Lakewood using something often referred to as “dockless mobility.” We appreciate everyone who attended the open houses and responded to the survey to share your thoughts and ideas.
Background: You may be familiar with traditional bike share, such as B-Cycle in Denver, where users rent a bike from a docking station and return the bike to a docking station located closest to their destination.
Instead, dockless mobility is a newer concept. Riders use a smartphone app or other technology to locate and rent a nearby bike or electric scooter – at a light rail station, for example – to get to a business, home or other destination. Then riders simply park their vehicles at their chosen destination, without the limitation of having to pick up or drop off at stationary docks. Other riders can rent the vehicle where it’s parked, or the rental company picks up their vehicles and repositions them to locations where they are needed. This mobility option creates more flexibility and accessibility at a lower cost.
